Mens Summer Suits

Mens summer suits are the epitome of mens casual suits! They are obviously intended for the warmer weather of the summer months but what is it about the suit that makes them summer suits?

Read on to find out what fabrics and colors are best for summer suits and discover the advantages and disadvantages of both so you can be an informed summer suit shopper!

Mens summer suits can take on many forms. The easiest way to describe a summer suit for men is start with the purpose of the suit. Although obvious, it's worth mentioning. A summer suit should be light weight, breathable, absorbing and comfortable. Oh! let's not forget stylish and appropriate for your needs.

There are a couple of factors that provide well for these characteristics while also managing to perform well as characteristics for mens suits. Let's Start with the most important...

Fabrics for Summer Suits

There are several suit fabrics that perform well for summer suits. Of course, there are advantages and disadvantages to each so let's discuss a couple very popular choices for mens summer suits

Linen : Linen is a one of the oldest woven materials known to man. It's made from the flax plant and it's cooler, stronger and more absorbent than cotton. Linen is very lightweight but also durable, it's very comfortable and allows for excellent ventilation. For these reasons, it's a wonderful warm weather fabric.

Unfortunately, Linen has it's drawbacks. In terms of suiting material for men the primary drawback may be too detrimental for business attire. Linen wrinkles easily and looks quite unkept as a result. If your looking for a summer suit material that can serve as a great mens casual suit fabric, linen may be your answer. However, if you need a bit more formality for business attire you might want to consider the next material.

Tropical Wool : Tropical wool is a wonderful lightweight wool woven in such a way that allows for excellent breathability and ventilation. Like the name implies this wool is intended for tropical weather and thus serves the needs of summer suit fabrics quite well. Like most wools, tropical wool is a very good fabric for mens suits.

One of the bigger disadvantages of tropical wool can be it's price. Like super 150's, tropical wool is a fine wool fabric and with fineness comes cost. Another minor disadvantage but one worth mentioning is that it can be damaged with improper pressing. If you're paying for a good wool like tropical wool you'll want to be sure it's properly cared for at the cleaners.

Other Popular Summer Suit Fabrics :

  • Silk
  • Silk/Linen Blend
  • Cotton
  • Cotton/Khaki Blend
  • Cotton Twill
  • Cotton Chino
  • Cotton Seersucker
  • Cotton Poplin

Colors for Summer Suits

Another feature that makes a suit appropriate for the summer months is it's color. Clearly, no man prefers to be caught in the seering heat of the summer with a dark suit. Darker colors attract and absorb the suns heat so lighter colors help you avoid that added heat while also providing you with a good style statement for your summer wardrobe.

The following Summer suit colors are generally acceptable between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Here are a few color considerations for your summer suit:

  • White
  • Off-White
  • Stone
  • Khaki
  • Tan
  • Light Blue
  • Blue & White Seersucker

Mens summer suits can add versatility, style and flexibility into your wardrobe and offer excellent functionality for your warmer weather suiting needs. One last thing to keep in mind when thinking about summer suits. Fit is going to be your number one component of quality and happiness. Be sure to have your suit either custom made or at a minimum properly tailored to fit you. Apart from battling the heat you don't need to be fighting a poor fit!
